What is Therapeutic Touch?
Therapeutic Touch is a holistic, evidence-based therapy that incorporates the intentional and compassionate use of universal energy to promote balance and well-being in all aspects of the individual: body, mind, and spirit.
Therapeutic Touch (or TT) is a gentle healing art, and it is a contemporary interpretation of several ancient healing practices. It is founded on the premise that the human body, mind, emotions and intuition form a complex and dynamic energy field. The Therapeutic Touch practitioner uses the hands to direct a process of energy exchange in order to facilitate healing by helping to re-balance the energy field. TT is a widely accepted complementary holistic healing practice with a scientific basis, and it is well indicated to help reduce pain and anxiety, promote relaxation, and facilitate the body's natural restorative processes, among other things. Research has consistently shown that Therapeutic Touch has five potential effects:
- Elicits a profound relaxation response within 2 to 4 minutes.
- Decreases anxiety.
- Regulates and supports immune function.
- Accelerates wound healing.
- Reduces pain.
What is a Therapeutic Touch Session Like?
A TT session may last from twenty to thirty minutes or more. Recipients remain fully clothed and may either be seated or lying down during the session. The practitioner then uses gentle and fluid hand motions to work with the recipients' energy field. The practitioner may use her physical touch, but much of the work is actually done approximately 2 to 6 inches from the body. Everyone responds differently to a session, depending on their health and open-mindedness. One common response is to feel a sense of deep relaxation.
Duration and Cost
The TT sessions that I perform usually last about one hour. They include a brief consultation in which gather information about you, a 20- to 30-minute TT session, followed by a 10 to 20 minute rest period in which you integrate the effects of the session. These one-hour sessions cost anywhere from $60 to $105: I leave it up to you to choose the price that you are able to pay. Here's how to schedule a session with me.
My Experience as a Therapeutic Touch Practitioner
I have always been sensitive to people's moods and energy, so it was natural for me to integrate Therapeutic Touch into my life. Therapeutic Touch has given me a way to channel that intuition. I have been an accredited Therapeutic Touch practitioner since 1998. In 2008, I was recognized by the Nurse Healers - Professional Associates International, Inc. (this is the organization that credentials TT practitioners in the US), and received the credential of Qualified Therapeutic Touch Practitioner (QTTP). I have also received the credential of Qualified Therapeutic Touch Teacher (QTTT) since June 2010. I am presently providing TT mentorship to those who are interested in pursuing TT along with their profession.
